We are working on addition with regrouping. Some of the students are having difficulty with this concept. Please check over your child's math papers as they come home. If your child is having difficulty with this concept, please let me know so that I can give extra help in class. October 28, 2019 This wee report cards will be coming home. Remember that math is proficiency based grading. That means that the students were tested on the standards that we have learned. A three is proficient. This means that your child is working at a second grade level where they should be. It is very hard to get a four that would be working beyond grade level. If they have a 2 they haven't quite learned the standards that we are working on. They may always retake a test that they had trouble with the standard. October 7, 2019 We have now completed five of the nine standards that will be on the report card. We are taking one standards test each day to complete the three for each standard. We have The OA standards to complete before the end of the quarter. You should see a grade when you check out the math in gradebook. September 30, 2019 We will be taking a standards test each week. These are the only grades that you see when you go into gradebook. It won't generate a grade until we have taken 3 tests on each standard. The work that the do in class, isn't part of the report card grade. We are finishing up chapter 2 and beginning chapter 3 this week. Chapter 3 is basic facts and relationships or fact families. September 23, 2019 We will continue to work on numbers to 1,000. We will also begin the standards tests that they need for report cards. Each standard needs three tests. We will begin with the first tests for the odd and even number standards and place value standards. September 16, 2019 This week we will continue to work on numbers to 1,000. We will complete lessons 5,6,7,8, and 9. On Friday, the homework page is completed in class. September 9, 2019 We will begin chapter 2 Numbers to 1,000. We will not have homework on Monday, but watch for it on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, On Friday, we will complete the homework page in class. August 30, 2019 This week we have our first math test! It will be on Thursday. It should be simple for your child if they have been completing their homework and their classwork each day. This year we will be using the second grade go math. Our first chapter is number concepts. We will be reviewing place value and learning our even and odd numbers. This year we will be doing proficiency based grading withmath only! That means that your child's grade will be on whether or not he/she understands the standard that we are working on. A 3 means that your child is proficient at the standard. A four is that they are thinking beyond the standard. It is very difficult to get a four. Each week I will let you know what standard we are working to learn. Your child will have a homework page each day. They will have the option to complete the page in class or take it home. If it is completed in class, I must check it before it is handed in to the basket. |
