Welcome to a new year! We will be doing many things this year with the limitations that are in place. All information can be found on the Google Classroom page. The class code is: ggnlm4g. All of the chrome books have classroom on them ready to go. Just click on the icon at the bottom of the page after you log in. If you need to contact me, my e-mail address is: [email protected]. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
For Distance Learners: We will have a google meeting, (the link is on the stream page of classroom,) every weekday morning at 9:00. Mon- Thurs. we will also have a meeting at 12:15. On Friday, your child has an individual appointment with me to progress monitor and go through any questions that they may have. This is also the time I will be doing workshop with them. Please let me know if you have any questions.

I can't believe we are to the last week of school! I hope that all of your children enjoy the magic show this morning. They just need to go to the regular morning meeting.
Thank you for being flexible while we figured out distance learning. I hope we are back in the regular classroom next fall. I appreciate all that you have done to help your child be successful and still learn. I really appreciate the video that was put together. I will always treasure it.
I hope that all of you stay healthy. Have a great summer. Don't forget to return your chrome book Tuesday or Wednesday at your scheduled time.

I hope that all of you had a wonderful Mother's Day. We have completed all of the work, and now we will have a fun week. We will have a different virtual field trip each day at the regular 10:00 meeting. I hope that all of the students are there. We will end with a magic show on Monday, May 18 at 10:00. It will be the end of the year party. When the students come to bring back their chromebooks on May 19 and 20, their will be a goody bag from the magic show. You will also get all of the things that were in their desks, the memory book and golden eagle awards for those who earned them. Thanks for hanging in there with distance learning. I know it hasn't been easy for any of you.
May 3, 2020
We are almost there! On May 18, 2020 we will have a virtual magician performing for the class at the 10:00 meeting. Make sure your child is there to enjoy the fun. There will also be a magic wand that will be sent home with desk stuff and the return of chrome books.

This is the week that normally we would work together in groups to figure out the cost of a vacation. If you'd like to do this with your child, pick a place, work out travel to get there, either driving or flying, the cost of food and lodging, as well as the cost of where you are going. They would then present to the class. If you choose to do this, we will give them time on Friday to present to the class.

Just a couple of things. First, Phillip Davidson has been very busy making how to videos to help with submitting your child's work. They are at the top of the classwork part of google classroom. There is an I-phone app photo submit,mp4, and an i-pad app photo submit and edit mp4, a scan and submit, and a self-grading option. I hope that these help with getting the work in a bit easier.
Mr. Misco is also holding a google meeting for parents each Wednesday evening from 7:00-8:00. The address is: http://meet.google.com/nxb-vefy-woy. If you have any technical questions, he will help you at the meeting.
I appreciate all that you are doing to help your child continue learning with distance learning.
April 6, 2020
If any of you are having problems navigating the new classroom work page, please let me know. My e-mail is: [email protected]. We will work through the problems. If your child is taking more than 3-4 hours to complete all of their work each day, also let me know and we will cut their assignments.
April 3, 2020
Good Afternoon Parents,
As discussed in the meeting, I will make a folder with each day and weeks work to place in Google Classroom so that your child has a place to turn in their work. I will also put a schedule up both here and in google classroom so that you know what is expected of your child each day. I'll astrick the items that need to be done, and the others are can be done if your child has time and would like something more to do.

Hi Parents,
We have been successful with the morning meeting. I put a new link on google classroom stream for the afternoon meeting. We will see if it works today. If it takes you to the calendar, click on hangouts and it should let you join. Things seem to be going well, I've recieved work from about half of you. If you are having problems with getting work turned in, e-mail me and I will walk you through what to do. It is fun seeing all of the kids in the meetings. I wish we were able to be together, but it is what it is. If you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail me.
March 26, 2020
Dear Parents,
I have the link all set up in Google Classroom. I will also send an e-mail since everyone doesn't check the page. All you child will need to do tomorrow is click on the link at 10:00 a.m. It is in both the classwork and streaming parts of google classroom.
Tomorrow will be a test run to use microphones and cameras and for the students to see each other again. On Monday, and every weekday after, I will give directions for the papers that need to be completed that day. I will also teach any lessons that need to be taught to understand the papers. It will be important that your child attends each day.
This is all new territory, but we don't want to waste all of the copies that have been made. So we will do our regular work papers. I'm not sure just how we will be sending the papers back just yet. If you have any suggestions, let me know. You may always contact me through e-mail.
March 16, 2020
Good morning parents,
We are going to be a bit crazy with the new distance learning. The students already know how to access the portal, ST math, Spelling City, and Wonders, through the portal, on their chromebooks. We will also be using google classroom for writing. There is already a Leprechaun writing assignment in Google classroom. They should know how to access this as well. Google classroom also has a place where your child can send a message if they do not understand anything. I have gone in and added everything that the students need. This weeks lessons are showing. We are on Unit 5 Week 5. We have only been doing adaptive reading during workshop. If the students click on read, it will give this weeks stories in their books. Have them read the stories. All of the things that we do in class are linked on the page. They may also work on ST math each day. Have them work on the Spelling City words, like usual, but on Friday, have the students take the test. They should have the words. All the vocabulary students will need to have a parent read the words and e-mail me your child's score. These are extra words that I do, not connected with Wonders Spelling. The Go Math lessons are also available on line. Mr. Misco will have a packet for Wednesday with instructions for accessing all of these sites and your child's username and passwords. We are on Chapter 9 lesson 6 in Go Math. Go Math also has math games that they may play to help facilitate learning. Always practice facts with those that need this. Make sure that your child is reading 30 minutes each day. If you need a chromebook, you may check one out, but it won't be the students. Let's stay positive and get through this together. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to e-mail me at [email protected].
March 13, 2020
As you have heard by now, all field trips have been cancelled. That means we won't be going to see Air Play at Kingsbury Hall on Monday. It will be an ordinary school day. Assemblies have also been cancelled. I am hoping that we will be able to attend the field trip on April 2 at Capitol Theater. Keep your fingers crossed!
This week we will take our Unit five end of unit tests. Since it is a three day week, and we were supposed to have a field trip, we thought it would work better. We will begin a new week on Wednesday, and that will give them the break and the next week to practice their spelling words. The weeks tests will be the following Friday.
I hope all of you stay well. Remember to keep sick children home. We are disinfecting every day to keep us healthy.
March 9, 2020
We have had three parents volunteer to help with the Thanksgiving Point field trips. We still need three more. If you would like to come to Butterfly Biosphere on May 5, or the Museum of Natural Curiosity on May 15, let me know. They are very strict on the 4:1 ratio. Thank you parents who have already offered your time. They are both fun experiences you will enjoy.
The end of the quarter is March 18. Please make sure your child has all of their work made up by then. Report cards will go home the following week.
We are looking forward to seeing Chitty Chitty Bang Bang on Tuesday. I know it will be a great performance. Then we have the March 16 field trip to see Air Play. After that we have the end of the quarter and the very short break. (Thursday, Friday, and Monday) I am looking forward to a great week!
March 2, 2019
Welcome to March. We have three field trips this month. The note for the first two has gone home and everyone has returned it! The first is today at Churchill Middle School. We will be watching The Wizard of Oz. It should be lots of fun for all of the students. The next, is Tuesday, March 10 where we will see Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at Wastach Middle School. The third is Monday, March 16. We will be going to Kingsbury Hall and will be seeing Air Play. If you would like to come to any of these, let me know.
Looking ahead: We have a field trip on Thursday, April 2, at Capitol Theatre. It will be in the morning so we will still have P.E. in the afternoon. Then in May we have two field trips scheduled. The first is May 5 to the Butterfly Biosphere at Thanksgiving Point. We need a 4:1 ratio for these trips. That means we need 6 parents to volunteer as chaperones. You will ge assigned a group of 4 students. The last scheduled is May 15 also to Thanksgiving Point, but to the Museum of Natural Curiosity. Again we will need 6 parent volunteers. If you are interested in either of the May field trips, please let me know.
We are also finishing our study of habitats and animals in science. We will be working on a background with an animal camouflaged in it. Your child may be as creative as they would like with the background. The animal needs to be real. They will place the animal on a poster and design a background around it helping it disapper. We will share with the class telling about our animal and the choices we made for the background. The class will try to find the animal. Watch for these to be in the hallway afterwards. You child may bring any materials from home that they would like to use. We will work on the backgrounds during workshop time next week.
February 24, 2020
SEP conferences are finished. We had 100 percent attendance! Thanks to everyone for coming. We also had a wonderful Valentine's Day party. I hope that all of you had a great three day weekend. We are now working on Unit 5 in reading. It is about people. Last week we focused on people helping others. This week we will work on cooperation with each other. We also sent home a field trip note that most have returned. If you haven't, make sure you do. Our next field trip will be on March 2. We will go to Churchill Middle School and watch The Wizard of Oz. It should be lots of fun. The following week on Tuesday, March 10, we will go to Wastach Middle School and watch Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Then on March 16, we will be going to Kingsbury Hall and watching Air Play through Utah Presents. March will be a busy month for field trips. We will also be out of school for Spring Break on March 19, 20, and 23. Make sure you work plans around those dates.
February 10, 2020
We have SEP conferences today and tomorrow! I will assign a time if you haven't chosen a conference time. You and your child should attend the conference. Come prepared to discuss how your child is doing in school. We will also have the Valentine's Day party on Thursday. It will be from 10:30-11:30. Send Valentine's for 25 students. They do not need to put a name on the Valentine, just who it is from. They should also make a container at home. We will not have school on Friday. It is a compensation day for conferences earlier in the week. We also won't have school on Monday because it is President's Day. I hope that you all have a nice long weekend.
The following week, we will have our end of unit tests on Monday and Tuesday. Spelling words will go home on Wednesday, and we will begin the next unit. These words won't have a test until the following Friday. Because of missing a day the next week, we'll get started a bit early. The new words are on the web page.
February 3, 2020
Welcome to February! January seemed like a very long month. We have lots going on this month. First is SEP conferences on Monday, Feb. 10 and Tuesday Feb. 11. Thanks to all the parents who have signed a conference time. If you haven't, please go on to scheduler and set up a conference time. We won't have school on Friday, February 14, so we will have our party at 10;30-11:30 on Thursday, the 13. If you would like to help with the party, please let me know and I will put you in touch with the right people. The rest of the month will be normal.
Joey begins radiation on the fifth. He will then have 34 days with weekends and President's Day off. Hopefully, that will take care of everything and he will only need quarterly check-ups for the next two years.
If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know. Have a great week.
January 23, 2020
Hi Parents,
We went back to Huntsman Center on Tuesday. The good news is that Joey has a type B Empendymoma which means that it doesn't usually come back! He will be undergoing 34 days of radiation treatments beginning Feb. 5. We have the new glasses with prisms to correct the double vision so he should be able to drive himself to the treatments. I have one last doctors appointment with him with the surgeon on Feb. 6. That should be the last day that I miss because of all of this. I'm so glad he is on the road to recovery. After the treatments, he will need to see the oncologist every three months for the first two years, and then just once a year for the rest of his life to check and make sure everything is still fine. I hope you all have a great week.
January 21,2020
Dear Parents,
I hope you had a great three day weekend! I'm back to the doctors today with Joey. Hopefully, everything will go well. I'll give an update later.
Keep in mind the school birthday party on January 30. Also, Valentine's Day is just around the corner. We do not have school on the 14, but will exchange Valentine's and have a party on the 13. SEP conferences are also that Monday and Tuesday the 10 and 11. Please make sure you have gone to schedular to sign up for a conference time. It is already open and ready to go.
January 10, 2019
Hi parents,
I hope your New Year has been great so far. I am now back in the classroom. Joey is doing much better, even though he doesn't think so. He is comparing where he was just before going back into surgery instead of where he was two weeks out of surgery. He is doing much better this time around. His balance is improving each day. The vision is still tricky and when we go to radiation treatment on the 21st, we will also see the eye doctor and see what can be done. I will only be missing a day here and there from this point on. The next missed day will be January 21, when he sees the radiation doctor, the oncologist, and the eye doctor. I will be doing Access testing for the ELL's on the 22. We will have a sub, but I will be here in the building.
I hope everyone is looking forward to the birthday celebration. It is on January 30, 2020. The children need to be here by 5:45. I hope to see all of you then.
December 31, 2019
I hope all of you have a wonderful new year. Joey's surgery went really well. They were able to remove all of the tumor. He still has the double vision and balance issues again, but is doing much better than last time. The surgery wasn't as long only about 5.5 hours. I think that has made a difference in the recovery. Enjoy your last two days of break! The new spelling words are on the web page.
December 16, 2019
Don't forget we have the Sing a Round for parents on Thursday at 9:15. I hope we see all of you there. Friday is pajama day. Dress accordingly with the weather as well. We will have our Sing a Round in the morning at 9:00 and the class party from 10:30-11:30. Thanks to all the moms and dads who have been working on the party. I know we will enjoy it. I hope all of you have a fantastic holiday.
December 5, 2019
We spent most of the morning at the Huntsman's Center. The verdict is that the rest of the tumor needs to be removed. Joey is scheduled for surgery on Dec. 27. I will need to take some more time of to take care of him when he comes home from the hospital. The surgeon wasn't sure how long he would need to recover, but said second surgeries usually took a bit longer than the first because of scar tissue. Because the surgery is six weeks after the first, she doesn't think there will be too much scar tissue. After the surgery, he will begin radiation treatments. I forgot to ask how long the treatments would be.
We have been practicing for the sing a long. The students know the song and the dance. It should be well done. Remember it is at 9:15 on Thursday, December 19. I hope that all of you will be able to attend.
Dibles testing will be Wednesday, December 11. I had Mrs. Dockstader help me progress monitor all of the students yesterday and today. Most are on track to make their 20 word gain. The benchmark goal is 72 words. You can help your child by having them practice reading out loud. It is slower than reading in your head, and takes practice. All of the students do a very good retell.
If you have any questions or concerns, please e-mail me at [email protected].
November 29, 2019
We had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I hope that you did too. I will be at school on Wednesday and Friday. On Thursday, I will be taking Joey to see the oncologist and his surgeon. I will let you know what happens after the appointments. I updated the spelling page. The correct words are on it.
November 25, 2019
Joey had his stitches taken out today. The doctor wants to let the incision heal for another week before beginning radiation treatments. He will be seeing a neurooncologist as the Huntsman Center. He is doing much better at getting around. And will be able to enjoy Thanksgiving before starting treatments. I hope that all of you have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
November 21, 2019
We are home. Joey was released from the hospital yesterday. It is an Ependymoma tumor, like they thought, it is also a stage 2, which means that he will need radiation and chemo therapy to kill and shrink the tumor. After the tumor has shrunk, the doctor wants to go back in and remove the rest. We go to the Huntsman Center Monday to meet with the Oncologist and set up the treatments. I'll keep you posted on what is going on. I want to thank all of the parents who have helped keep things running smoothly in the class. I appreciate your stepping in and helping.
November 19, 2019
I'm sorry that I didn't get this updated sooner. As you know, my son had surgery Friday to remove a tumor on his brain. The doctor was able to get all of it off his brain stem and parts that had gone into his spinal cord. He was unable to get a piece on the cerebellum. The monitors were going off, their purpose is to let the doctor know when the patient is in trouble, so they stopped. It was an 11.5 hour surgery. It took him a while to recover and wake up. We are now waiting on the pathology report to see where we go from here. It should be in today, if it is, I will let you know what we will be doing next.
I will try to get this week's spelling words updated. Your child should have a paper copy of the words that went home yesterday. I apperciate all of your prayers and kindnesses.
November 11, 2019
Happy Veteren's Day! We want to thank all of those who have served in the armed forces to keep us safe.
Don't forget STEM night is coming on Tuesday, Nov. 19. It is a fun night for the children with lots of activites. It will be from 5-7.
Looking forward: The Sing a round for parents will be Thursday, Dec. 19 at 9:15 a.m. This will be when Sugar Plum Faries will perform. I hope that all of you mark it on your calendar and plan to attend.
November 4,2019
First, I want to thank all of the parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles etc. who came to watch our program. The children loved performing for you. I also want to thank all of the fantastic moms who helped make the party such a success. All of the children had a wonderful time!
Someone left a new Eastwood shirt behind on Wednesday when we had pictures and shirt changes. Also, I still have a new shirt that never made it home. The name was taken off, and it was left in the coat closet.
Now for the bad news. My son was just diagnosed with a brain tumor. He will have surgery to remove it on Nov. 15. I will be out from that Friday through Thanksgiving. Then we'll see how things are going. We won't know until they remove the tumor if it is benign or malignant. So we will be taking things one day at a time. Because I will be gone so much, we won't be able to do a Christmas program, but we will have the Sugar Plum Fairies dance in the song "Twas the Night Before Christmas" that we will sing for the sing a round in December. They have already been working very hard on their part.
Dibles testing will begin in December. Make sure your child is reading out loud every day to improve their reading fluency.
October 28, 2019
Hi Parents,
This week we have our Halloween program. Don't forget at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday. Thursday will be a busy day for us. We have the costume parade at 9:00 followed by the Halloween party at 10:30, then at 1:00 we ill perform for parents. Feel free to take your child with you after the program.
We also have pictures this week. On Wednesday, have your child come to school ready for pictures. We will have the students change into their orange tee-shirts during last recess. After recess, we will perform for the school.
I hope everyone has a great week!
October 21, 2019
Hi Parents,
I hope you all enjoyed the short break. This week is the end of first quarter. That means that any missing assignments need to be completed and in by Thursday. Thursday will also be a short day. Hi parents,
Welcome to a short week! Because of the three day week, we will be taking out unit 1 reading tests this week. We will not have any spelling. However, I will put the following weeks words up so you may begin practicing them. Don't forget that Wednesday is any early release day. We will not have school on Thursday and Friday. I hope everyone enjoys the break.
When we return it will be red ribbon week. Watch for a note to come home letting you know what to do each day.
Our program is getting ever closer! Save October 31 at 2:15 to come and watch your child perform.

I hope to see all of you there.
Don't forget that Wednesday, October 16 is a short day. We will have Fall break on October 17 and 18. Then it's back to school for the last week of the quarter. There will also be a short day on Thursday, Oct. 24. October 25 is a no attendance for students day. That should take care of October!

I appreciate the parents who sent their notes back. We will get started with this next week. I will send a note home letting you know the day and time to come. I will also do a quick training on what I would like you to do. We have about 18 students, in second grade, who would benefit from this help. It's not to late to send a note in if you would like to help.
Save the date for the Halloween program. We will perform for the parents at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, October 31. The children have been working hard and I know you will enjoy it.
Don't forget to get your time scheduled for SEP conferences on September 25 and 26. The times fill quickly, so don't put it off. I look forward to meeting with all of you and your child.

Hi parents,
We have had another great week! Schedular for SEP conferences will open this week. Please be sure to check your child's backpack for the note with instructions on it. Remember, first come first serve so if you want a specific day or time, be first to schedule! Conferences will be Wednesday, September 25, from 4-7 p.m. or Thursday, September 26, from 3-6 p.m. Your child should accompany you to the conference.
Watch for the note on parent helpers with reading that will come home today. We can always use additional parents, so if this is something you would like to help with and you haven't signed up to help, please feel free to send the note back with the days and times that work for you.

We have had two very good weeks this year. Just a reminder to check your child's backpack each day for the work we have completed and to help complete any work that wasn't completed in class. I am enjoying teaching this group of students. They are well meshed and look out for one another.
We will be sending home a note for those who wanted to help with the reading program asking what day and times work best for you. We should begin the week of September 9.

Welcome to our awesome second grade class! We will be working hard and learning lots this year. This week I will be getting to know your child and their strengths and weaknesses. We will be doing placement testing for spelling groups. Reading groups will be made after Dibles testing. We will also begin working with math. You can find all of the spelling list on the spelling page. Move to the math page for math assignments. Hopefully, you will get the hang of it. Anything about field trips or information that you need to know, will be on the homepage.
